β€” About LERC

The Only Institution of Its Kind in India

Β

“LERC occupies a singular

position in the Indian energy

landscape β€” the central technical

Institution for LPG equipment

research and standards since

Β

1990.”

Established as a joint venture of India’s three oil marketing giants β€” IndianOil corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum β€” LERC was created to ensure that every piece of equipment deployed across India’s vast LPG distribution network is rigorously tested, certified, and safe.

Our mandate encompasses the complete LPG equipment ecosystem β€” cylinders, domestic pressure regulators, valves, stoves, hoses, burners, vaporizers, LOT valves, seals, and the polymers and metals from which they are made. There is no comparable institution combining LERC’s depth of expertise across the entire LPG equipment value chain.

Testing & Certification

Authoritative third-party testing and certification of LPG equipment against IS, BIS, and international standards β€” ensuring compliance before any product enters India's supply chain.

Research & Development

DSIR-recognised R&D centre. Continuous applied research into materials performance, failure analysis, and next-generation equipment design β€” informing national standards bodies and manufacturers across India.

Standards Development

Active participation in Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) committees and WLGA, contributing technical expertise to the development and revision of Indian and International Standards for LPG equipment.
