WHY CONSERVATION MATTERS

LPG Savings in a Challenging Energy Environment

India is home to over 31 crore LPG households — one of the largest in the world. Approximately 60% of India’s LPG is imported from global markets. As a result, changes in international energy prices directly affect the cost of every cylinder that reaches an Indian family.

The ongoing global conflict situation — including tensions in key energy-producing regions — has put significant pressure on international LPG supply and pricing. During such periods, every unit of LPG conserved by Indian households reduces the country’s import burden, protects family budgets, and strengthens India’s energy security. Conservation is not just a saving habit — it is a national contribution.

Key Message: When international energy markets face stress, Indian families feel it at the LPG dealer. Simple conservation habits today — using a lid, a pressure cooker, or turning off the regulator when not in use — protect your budget and reduce India’s import dependence.

CHAPTER 1

Know Your LPG Setup

Understanding the components of your home LPG system is the first step to using it safely and efficiently. Your complete system runs: Cylinder ® Regulator ® Suraksha Hose ® Stove. Checking each component regularly prevents leaks, accidents, and wasted gas.

Always turn the regulator knob to OFF when the stove is not in use — even for short periods between meals. This single habit prevents slow leaks and saves measurable gas.

If you smell gas: Do NOT switch any electrical appliance on or off. Open all windows and doors. Shut the cylinder valve. Leave the premises immediately. Call Fire Brigade: 101 or LPG Emergency: 1906 / 1800-2333-555. Never attempt to fix a leaking cylinder yourself.

CHAPTER 2

Proven Ways to Reduce Your LPG consumption

These 16 practical steps, followed consistently, can reduce your LPG consumption by up to 30% without changing what you eat or how you cook. Together they can extend your cylinder life from 30–35 days to over 50 days.

Check for Leakages Regularly

Test pipe, burner, and regulator with soapy water every month. Small, invisible leaks silently waste large amounts of gas over time.

Dry Pots and Pans Before Cooking

Wet cookware placed on a burner wastes gas simply evaporating
water. Wipe all vessels dry before putting them on the flame.

Avoid Overcooking

Plan to cook time carefully. Overcooking wastes gas and reduce
nutritional value. Learn to turn off slightly early — residual heat finishes
the job.

Always Use a Lid While Cooking

A lid traps heat and steam inside the vessel. Food cooks faster
and gas use drops by 25–30% per dish — one of the simplest and highest-impact
habits.

Use a Thermos Flask for Hot Water

Boil water
once and store in a thermos. Reuse throughout the day instead of repeatedly re boiling

— every re boil wastes a
measurable amount of gas.

Cook on Low Flame After Boiling

Once food reaches boiling point, reduce to SIM or low. High
flame escapes around the vessel sides into the air pure waste. Saves up to 25%
fuel.

Cook the Right Quantity

Cook only what your family will consume. Excess cooked food
wastes both gas and food. Estimate portions accurately before lighting the
stove
.

Use a Pressure Cooker Daily

Pressure cookers save 20–65% gas versus open pots. Use them for
dal, rice, meat, vegetables, and eggs — they are the single highest-impact
cooking tool.

Keep Burners Clean

Soot-clogged burner holes produce an inefficient yellow flame.
Clean weekly with a pin or toothbrush to maintain a blue, efficient flame.

Prepare All Ingredients Before Lighting the Stove

Never light the burner before vegetables are chopped, spices are
ready, and water is measured. Every minute of idle burning is direct gas waste.

Cook All Dishes for the Meal Together

Cooking separate dishes for different family members multiplies
gas consumption. Plan meals so everything is cooked in one cooking session.

Defrost Food Before Cooking

Frozen food on a flame requires far more gas. Thaw at room
temperature for a few hours before cooking — thawing is free and saves
significant gas.

Turn Off the Stove 23 Minutes Early

Cookware retains heat well after the flame is off. Switch off
slightly early and allow residual heat to finish cooking — particularly
effective for rice and dal.

Soak Grains and Pulses Before Cooking

Soaked dal, rice, and pulses absorb water and cook 40% faster.
Pre-soaking is free, improves nutrition, and reduces cooking time
significantly.

Match Pot Size to Quantity Being Cooked

Using a large vessel for a small quantity wastes heat.
Right-sized cookware heats faster, distributes heat evenly, and conserves gas.

Dine Together as a Family

Reheating food separately for each family member multiplies gas
use. Eating together at the same time eliminates unnecessary reheating cycles.

CHAPTER
3

LPG Safety: Essential DOs and DON’Ts

Safe LPG use protects your family’s lives.
These rules must be followed every day without exception. Safety and
conservation go together as well-maintained setup is also an efficient one.

 DO

DON’T

Keep the cylinder upright — valve always on top

Lay the cylinder on its side or invert it

Keep the gas stove ABOVE the cylinder level at all times

Place the stove below cylinder level — gas can pool and ignite

Keep the stove away from strong wind and open drafts

Cook near open windows with strong wind — flame becomes inefficient

Stay near the stove at all times while cooking

Leave the stove unattended while the flame is on

Turn the regulator to OFF after every use

Leave the regulator ON between meals — slow leaks accumulate

Store the cylinder in a cool, ventilated area

Keep cylinder in direct sunlight or near any heat source

Replace the rubber hose every 5 years

Continue using cracked, hardened, or aged rubber tubing

Use only ISI-marked stoves, regulators, and hoses

Use non-standard, unbranded, or duplicate equipment

Gas Smell Protocol: (1) Do NOT switch any electrical appliance on or off. (2) Open all windows and doors immediately. (3) Shut the cylinder valve. (4) Leave the premises at once. (5) Call Fire Brigade: 101 or LPG Emergency: 1906 / 1800-2333-555.
